Jury Duty Phone Scam – Sheriff’s Department Impersonation

Notice from the Beaver Borough Police Department: The Police Department is warning residents about an ongoing phone scam involving individuals falsely claiming to be from the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office.

In these calls, scammers tell residents they failed to appear for jury duty and must either surrender themselves for arrest or pay a civil fine. Victims are then instructed to send $500 by purchasing gift cards or using cryptocurrency, often being directed to travel to a retail location or a cryptocurrency machine to complete the payment.

Important Information for Residents

Please be aware that:

  • Law enforcement agencies will never demand payment over the phone
  • You will never be asked to pay fines using gift cards or cryptocurrency
  • Legitimate law enforcement agencies do not conduct official business in this manner

What to Do

If you receive a call like this:

  • Do not send money or share personal information
  • Hang up immediately
  • Report the call to the Beaver Borough Police Department
